Eynon Hawkins GC, won George Cross 29 Jun 43, Able Seaman. Was serving in a merchant vessel which was hit by three torpedoes, a gunner on board the British Dominium when she was lost on the 11th Jan 1943, for his cool courage in rescuing survivors and organising them in the water, keeping them away from the flames until they were picked up by one of the escorts, he was awarded the Albert Medal for saving Life at Sea and also, The Lloyd's Medal for Bravery
H H Flintoff GC ran to the aid of a Farmer after a Bull turned on him
Anthony John Gledhill George Cross Holder, He was serving as a constable in the Metropolitan Police Force at the time. His partner, Constable Terry McFall, won the George Cross for the same action. They were on patrol when they were ordered to chase a car driving the wrong way down a one way street. Fifteen shots were fired at their police car during the ensuing chase. The criminals' car crashed into a lorry and they attacked the police officers, who were trying to arrest them. Both police officers were injured in the confrontation but managed to subdue the men until assistance arrived.
