25 Aug 1980 BFPS 1707 10th Anniversary of the first Operation Deployment of the Harrier Special postmark. 10th Anniversary of the first Operation Deployment overseas of Operational VTOL Aircraft. Cover based on a painting of a Harrier making vertical take - off in a forest clearing and 4 Squadron Badge. Flown in 4 Sqn Harrier GR3 ( XV784 from RAF Gutersloh . The sortie was low - level tactical reconnaissance comprising of 3 targets, one of which was the Mohne Dam. The sortie lasted 57 minutes at speeds up to 450 Kts, and heights as low as 250 Ft. The sortie was concluded with a 'Press up ' consisting of a vertical take off and vertical landing.
