Cover depicts Edgar Percival , Percival Gull G AFAA and Percival logo. Australian Edgar Percival was a WW1 Fighter Pilot who served with 60 Sqn, Commanded by AVM Billy Bishop VC in France and then with 111 Sqn in Palestine. During the 1920's he operated many former WW1 aircraft in Australia and in 1931 founded Percival Aircraft, famous for the Gull, Mew Gull and Vega Gull, which built nearly 3000 proctors for military use in WW11. Beamont managed all the prototype tests on the Canberra, establishing two Atlantic records. In 1945 he claimed to have shot down a P-38 Lightning. Flown cachet on the back Flown from A & AEE Boscombe Down on 16th April 1984 in De Havilland Comet Mk 4C, XS 235 named Canopus. The sortie was an air test and xontinuation training flight Captain Sqn Ldr D J Cox. Cover depicts Air Cdre Clouston his De Havilland Comet G ACSS and Raoul Hafner AR111 Gyroplane . Personally Signed by the Pilot Sqn Ldr D J Cox and Air Cdre Clouston who was born in New Zealand. Inspired by Sir Charles Kingsford he joined the RAF and became a Test Pilot at RAE Farnborough. Following the 1934 MacRobertson England to Australia Air Race he flew the winning De Havilland Comet G ACSS back to England. He brought the Comet and set many World Record Flights including the England to New Zealand and England to South Africa . During WW11 he tested Spitfires he shot down a Heinkel and later became OC 224 Liberator Sqn. He was awarded the DSO and DFC which were added to his AFC and Bar for test flying. Wounded at Salonica whilst in hospital in Malta developed an interest in flying. He was attached to the Royal Flying Corps in 1916 and undertook his flying course at Aboukir in Egypt where he flew Maurice farman Shorthorns. Returned to England in 1917 to train on Bristol F2B and then joined 48 Sqn in France where he shot down 2 enemy aircraft plus one not confirmed. Later became test pilot with Handley Page.
