The Amphibious Assualt on Walcheren Island by Royal Marines Commando 41,47 & 48 and 4 Commando. Personally Signed by Major S M Peretz MBE Royal Marine Served as a Royal Marine Captain during the assault and Capture of the Island of Walcheren Holland on 1st November 1944. He was a member of the crew of landing craft ( M ) 101 the first to land on the beach at Westapelle and which was destroyed during the assault. He was awarded the MBE in recognition of the part played in the operation also Signed by Petty Officer Motor Mechanic William Cheeney CGM Royal Navy. Served as a Leading Motor Mechanic in Landing Craft LCS ( L ) 260 during the assault on Westkapella. His landing craft received a direct hit in the fuel compartment which caused a fire in the engine room. He was lowered over the side of the craft and entered through the shell hole and succeeded in getting the fire under control which saved the ship. Served as a Royal Naval Chaplain with 48 Royal Marine Commando during the assult landing at Westapelle ( when he had to swim ashore ) on the 1st of November 1944. He also served during D day 1944 with the Royal Naval Beach Commandos and was subsequently awarded the DSC for undaunted courage, skill and determination. He later became the Bishop of Norfolk and signed by Captain Hedley J Phillips OBE,QPM, DL Royal Marines. Personally Signed by Vice Admiral Sir Toby Frere KCB Chief of Fleet Support and Lieuten Commander J BridgeGC GM & Bar RNVR . was awarded George Cross for this hazardous task. Personally Signed on the Back. S 31 August 1943 Lt John Bridge RNVR, HMS Elissa (Messina, Sicily), Bomb and Mine Disposal Section, also Port Clearance. After the death or wounding of an entire bomb disposal party on 23 August 1943 by six depth charges, Lt Bridge and his party, in 28 dives cleared Messina harbour of the remaining 207, including two with unknown firing mechanisms by the 2 September. This was only one day before the assault on Italy, and thus vital to Allied operations. Lt Bridge had already received the GM and Bar. Awarded George Cross, gazetted 20 June 1944.
