BRITISH AIRMAIL LETTERS, NAVY CENSOR MARKS ETC.

8th June 42 - FPO Number unclear on 3d stamp. A censored form addressed from HMS Nile a shore base in Egypt to Newfoundland. The wordsBy Airmail have been cancelled by a Jusqu'a handstamp to show that there is no airmail service. It was not until 11 Sept 44 that an airmail letter service to this destination came into effect. It was terminated on 31 Dec 45. With a Navy tomb stone censor mark.

30 Apr 44 - A British form franked with 3d British stamp cancelled with Field Post No.495 of the Canadian Active Force in the UK with From HM Ship passed by Censor. This Canadian mark has the C removed. It was assumed that they were altered for use in Royal Navy ships.

26 Nov 44 - 3d British stamp cancelled with a red Maritime Mail machine postmark. With a red Navy tomb stone Censor Mark. Type C1.

11 Nov 43 - 3d British stamp cancelled with a black Maritime Mail machine. Sent from HMS Wayland. With red Navy tomb stone Censor Mark. Type K1AA1 Code No.51 - 6818(2). Sub Type '3'.

As above but on stamp 5 May 45. Sent from HMS Wayland and blue Navy tomb stone censor mark. Sub Type 4.

As above but used 27 Jan 46 (used by Navy in Far East in this case on a ship returning to UK from Australia). Post free.

27 Feb 44 - Used from HMS Dida a tender class cruiser in the Mediterranean. Franked with 1d x 3 British stamps. Cancelled with Maritime Mail machine cancel in black (the peace time mode). With a Navy tomb stone censor mark in blue/grey. Type K1AAA1.

24 Oct 44 - British 3d cancelled with red Maritime Mail. With red Navy tomb stone Censor Mark - Type J Sub Type 21a. 2nd 'T' of written on bottom admonition broken below the cross bar.

31 Oct 44 - British 32d cancelled with red Martime mail. With red Navy tomb stone passed by censor mark. Sub Type 2. Type J.

15 Mar 50 - Martime Mail CDS on postcard to UK of views of Malta. (X7).

20 Jun 55 - Auckland New Zealand Packet Boat CDS on GB QE 6d airletter to UK. (X9).

18 Jul 61 - Willemstad Curaco CDS on GB 6d airletter to UK from MV 'Port Wellington'. (X10).
